The Iraqi presidential election will be held in the Council of Representatives (parliament) on January 27. This announced by Heibat al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament.
The final list of candidates for the post of head of state includes 19 people. Among them are the current President of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, and the current Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein.
At the end of 2025, the Iraqi Parliament elected al-Halbousi as Chairman of the Council of Representatives. According to the country’s constitution, within the next 30 days, members of parliament will elect the President of the Republic, who will then instruct the largest coalition to nominate a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Iraq.
