Snow has occasionally fallen in the Sahara Desert, specifically around the Algerian town of Aïn Séfra, commonly known as the “Gateway to the Desert”. While rare, this phenomenon has occurred multiple times in recent decades, including in 1979, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, and early 2026, often covering red sand dunes with white snow before melting within a day.
