Kazan is being considered as a venue for a number of international sporting competitions, according to Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan. This was reported by the country’s International Information Center.
In addition to the European Aquatics Championships, scheduled for 2028, the city may host tournaments new to the region. These include the inaugural CIS Winter Games and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Youth Games.
The possibility of hosting the World Nomad Games in 2028 is also being discussed. The tournament brings together the national sports and cultural traditions of nomadic peoples and is included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The
CIS Winter Games could be a continuation of the summer competition format. The program is expected to include cross-country skiing, figure skating, hockey, and short track speed skating.
According to the minister, the availability of ice arenas and ski infrastructure in Kazan makes the city eligible for winter competitions.
The World Nomad Games include equestrian competitions, archery, traditional wrestling, and kok-boru. Authorities believe that hosting the tournament could attract participants and spectators from different countries to the city.
