The early general election in Canada, saw the Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, emerge victorious.
According to preliminary results released by Elections Canada, the official and independent body responsible for conducting elections, the ruling Liberal Party won 43.5 per cent of the valid votes cast, securing a majority.
Carney’s party won 168 of the 343 seats in the federal parliament, but fell short of the 172 mandates needed to form a single-party government.
The main opposition force, the Conservative Party, won 41.4% of the vote and 144 seats in parliament. It was followed by the Bloc Québécois, which secured the support of 6.4% of voters.
As of now, 98.86% of ballots have been processed.
The Liberal Party, which is expected to form a government for the fourth time in a row, last won a parliamentary majority in 2015.
In the previous election, the Liberals, led by Justin Trudeau, won 160 seats in parliament, the Conservative Party won 119, the Bloc Québécois won 32, and the New Democratic Party won 25.
