French President Emmanuel Macron has reappointed Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister, days after he resigned.
According to a written statement released by the Élysée Palace, Macron reconfirmed Lecornu’s appointment and tasked him with forming a new government.
Later that day, the French president held a meeting at the Élysée Palace with representatives of parliamentary political parties to discuss the ongoing government crisis.
Representatives of the far-right National Rally (RN) and far-left France Insoumise (LFI) were not invited to the meeting.
Budget disagreements continue to fuel political instability in France .
The government of center-right politician Michel Barnier lasted only three months and was dismissed on December 4, 2024, after the opposition passed a no-confidence vote amid disagreements over the 2025 budget.
