On March 25, a meeting was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris between the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled Al-Enany.
In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO in the field of education. Particular attention was paid to ensuring equal access to quality education, the digital transformation of education systems, and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into the educational process.
The Minister of Education of Turkmenistan noted that cooperation with UNESCO is one of the priority areas of the country’s international engagement. It was emphasized that ongoing joint initiatives consistently strengthen the national education system and contribute to its integration into the global educational space.
The Director-General of UNESCO highly appreciated the work carried out by Turkmenistan, emphasizing the systematic and forward-looking nature of the reforms aimed at ensuring quality and accessible education. It was also noted that the country actively participates in international educational dialogue and contributes to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal No. 4
During the meeting, high appreciation was expressed for the implementation of UNESCO programs in Turkmenistan, including the activities of UNESCO Chairs, Associated Schools, and the participation of higher education institutions in international academic networks.
The parties also discussed the prospects for establishing a new UNESCO Chair “Digital Science” and expanding cooperation with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education.
Special attention was given to the “Lifelong Learning” initiative, including the participation of the city of Ashgabat in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
Following the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to intensify joint efforts and implement new projects aimed at further developing the education system of Turkmenistan.
