On October 24, the Caspian Institute of Maritime and River Transport named after General Admiral F.M.Apraksin hosted a Model UN conference entitled “Meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development”. The event was organized by the Consulate of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation (Astrakhan) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Astrakhan Region, as well as the Caspian Institute of Maritime and River Transport named after General Admiral F.M.Apraksin. The theme of discussion was “The Caspian Sea – a Bridge between East and West.”
The participants thoroughly discussed the prospects of the region’s development with special attention to transport and logistics potential, environmental safety issues, the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, as well as the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties. Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan’s initiative to establish the “Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” – a platform for promoting the ideas of peace and sustainable development through the prism of neutrality.
A distinctive feature of the event was the active participation of students. As part of the Model UN, students from Astrakhan universities acted as official representatives of the member countries of the “Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development.” The young diplomats were able to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the field of international relations in practice, presenting the positions of the countries they represented and participating in the development of joint decisions. The event was also attended by the Consuls General of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation (Astrakhan), as well as the leadership of the Astrakhan Region.
The Model UN became an important platform for open dialogue, contributing to the search for new ways of multilateral cooperation in the Caspian region and strengthening mutual understanding between countries.
