American entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced the beginning of a new era in neurotechnology. Mass production of brain implants will begin in 2026, and the installation procedure will be fully automated. The entrepreneur made the announcement on social media.
According to this information, the main technological breakthrough will be a method for inserting the device without removing the dura mater, which will significantly reduce surgical risks. The development is primarily intended to help patients with severe paralysis and spinal cord injuries.
To date, 12 people have already received the implants. They are successfully using the brain-computer interface to control electronic devices, play online games, and access the internet. The first patient was 29-year-old Noland Arbo, paralyzed after an accident. Just a few weeks after the surgery, he conducted an eight-hour stream playing chess using his mind.
