The authoritative travel guide Lonely Planet has published “Best in Travel 2026,” a list of remarkable places to visit in the coming year. The book comes with a collection of unique itineraries created using the new travel planning service, Lonely Planet Journeys.
The Liberdade district in São Paulo topped the list. Brazil has the largest Japanese community outside of Japan. Liberdade is truly full of surprises, with anime-inspired street art and an oriental garden. It is also noted that it serves some of the best ramen outside of Tokyo.
The next popular destination is Mexico City, Mexico. History, food, culture, art—all of it was possible to explore on foot. The bougainvillea-strewn districts of Coyoacán, La Roma, and La Condesa received high marks from Lonely Planet this year.
The list of destinations also includes Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and Maine, USA. The beauty of Maine is truly unique, and its four national parks are simply stunning.
Tipperary, a city in Ireland, is a true hidden gem. It’s Ireland’s largest inland county, and many people simply pass through it on their way to the Wild Atlantic Way (coastal route). Tipperary truly has one of the most beautiful and underrated driving routes.
In Asia, Phuket is best known for its romantic atmosphere, but more and more people are now discovering it as a place to work and travel. The beaches, jungles, and cool coastal lifestyle of this Thai resort are just the thing.
The list also includes Botswana, Peru, South Korea, Australia, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, the Caribbean, the Solomon Islands, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
