​The Turkmenistan Chess Championship (Higher League) concluded on February 11 in Ashgabat. The tournament followed a double round-robin system in both Open and Women’s categories, featuring the country’s strongest players.
​Based on the results, the following champions and medalists were determined:
​Women’s Category:
​1st Place: Lala Shokhradova (Rating: 2109) – 11.5 points out of 14. She is a student at the Yagshigeldy Kakaev International University of Oil and Gas, coached by Serdar Annaberdiyev.
​2nd Place: Jahan Rejepova (Rating: 2051) – 8 points. A 10th-grade student at School No. 41 in Lebap province and the 2025 national champion, coached by Guljahan Ovlyakuliyeva.
​3rd Place: Makhri Agamuradova (Rating: 1926) – 7.5 points. A 16-year-old 10th-grade student at School No. 27 in Lebap province, coached by Guljahan Ovlyakuliyeva.
​Lala Shokhradova delivered a confident performance, confirming her status as the leader of women’s chess in the country.
​Leyla Shokhradova (Rating: 2183), Lala’s sister and a student at the International University of Oil and Gas, joined the national team as the top-rated female player. Consequently, she chose to compete in the Open (Men’s) category this year.
​Ogulsuray Bayrambayeva (Rating: 1906), a 4th-year student at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, secured fourth place with 7 points and also earned a spot on the national team.
​A standout performance was delivered by 12-year-old Dilber Khupbyyeva (Rating: 1916). The 6th-grade student from Dashoguz Velayat scored 6.5 points, finishing just shy of her goal to join the national team. The young player demonstrated mature and steady play against much more experienced opponents.
​Open Category:
​1st Place: Amanmukhammet Khommadov (Rating: 2269) – 11 points. A 2nd-year student at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, coached by Serdar Annaberdiyev.
​2nd Place: Vepaly Khalynyazov (Rating: 2194) – 9.5 points. A 3rd-year student at the Turkmen State Architecture and Engineering Institute, coached by Aynur Isayeva.
​3rd Place: Shahrukh Turayev (Rating: 2211) – 8.5 points. He also serves as the head coach of the Turkmenistan Women’s National Team.
​Amanmukhammet Khommadov showed consistent and productive play throughout the championship, deservedly earning the national title.
​Notable performances were also turned in by Ilkhan Charyyev (Rating: 2187), a 12th-grade student from Lebap province who scored 8.5 points, and Akhmet Gubataev (Rating: 2176), a freshman at the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, who finished with 7.5 points.
​Saparmyrat Atabayev (Rating: 2487) and Meilis Annaberdiyev (Rating: 2424) were automatically included in the national team roster as the rating leaders.
​Notably, both gold medalists train at the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of Ashgabat under the Honored Coach of Turkmenistan, Serdar Annaberdiyev.
​The results of the Higher League have finalized the national team rosters for the upcoming international tournament “Russian Chess Crown,” held in the Moscow region from February 17–27.
​This prestigious event serves as a vital preparation phase for the 46th World Chess Olympiad, which will take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, this September. These high-level international tournaments allow the country’s leading players to gain valuable practice, sharpen their competitive edge, and strengthen team synergy ahead of the cycle’s main event.
