The Norwegian capital Oslo has topped the international ranking of the world’s greenest cities, compiled by Iglu Cruise, the largest cruise company in the UK.
The Green Index takes into account the proportion of gardens, the number of public parks, and air quality. The city received 77.3 points out of 100. This indicator is due to the high level of air quality and the fact that 95% of residents live in close proximity to green spaces.
Vilnius came in second with 72.3 points. 61% of the area of the Lithuanian capital is allocated for green spaces, and the city has about 1,500 kilometers of pedestrian and bicycle paths.
The top ten also included cities such as Helsinki, Vienna, Canberra, Sydney, Stockholm, Singapore, Reading, and Munich.
Experts note that interest in nature tourism is growing, and tourists are increasingly choosing routes that combine city life with nature.
Representatives of the Norwegian tourism industry believe that such rankings reinforce Oslo’s international reputation as an environmentally friendly and sustainable city. In recent years, the capital has been recording record figures for tourist arrivals and hotel occupancy.
