Cameroonian President Paul Biya was sworn in for a new seven-year term on Thursday.
The 92-year-old Biya received 53.66% of the vote in the October 12 presidential election. He has been in power since 1982 and leads the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement. He was sworn in before Djibril Kavaye Yeguie, Speaker of the National Assembly (lower house of parliament), at a ceremony in the capital, Yaoundé. This is his eighth presidential term.
“The situation of youth and women will be my priority,” Biya said in his address, promising to build a “united and prosperous country.”
