The Phumjaithai (Pride of Thailand) party is leading by a wide margin in Thailand’s House of Representatives (lower house) election, with more than 50 percent of the vote counted, according to preliminary results released by the country’s Election Commission on Sunday.
Acting Prime Minister and leader of the Phumjaithai party, Anuthin Chanwirakun, announced at a news conference that his party had won Sunday’s election.
Earlier, People’s Party leader Natthaphong Ryangpanyawut said at a separate news conference that his party was ready to be a contender if Phumjaithai formed a government.
