Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan – Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov arrived in the city of Fizuli, where he will take part in the XVII summit of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which is being held on July 3 and 4 in Khankendi, as reported APA agency.
The main theme of the summit is “A New Vision for the ECO for a Reliable and Climate-Resilient Future.” During the meetings, representatives of the member countries will discuss key issues on the agenda, including measures to prevent climate change taken by the states of the region.
The Economic Cooperation Organization, established in 1985, unites ten countries – Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. The main areas of ECO activity include the development of trade, transport, energy and tourism. The organization’s headquarters are in Tehran.
The previous, XVI ECO summit was held on November 9, 2023 in the capital of Uzbekistan – Tashkent.
