On March 26, 2025, representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in a special conference entitled “The Role of Neutrality in Strengthening Peace and Trust” held in the European Parliament in the city of Brussels of the Kingdom of Belgium by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan jointly with the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Kingdom of Belgium.
The meeting was attended by members of the European Parliaments, heads of the diplomatic missions, representatives of the international organizations and the media.
Speakers at the conference noted the great importance of the recognition by the world community of the status of permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan as the main indicator of stability and trust in international relations. At the same time, the importance of active and peaceful views of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality, aimed at developing equal cooperation with all countries, reliable negotiations and peaceful initiatives was emphasized.
Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan noted the historical role of our country’s Neutrality policy, its legal basis and the significance of successfully implemented inter-parliamentary cooperation. And also, noting the importance of declaring 2025 as the year of “International Peace and Trust”, they especially emphasized that the status of permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, recognized for the third time by the United Nations, is a reliable platform for holding international negotiations, and informed about the activities carried out by the Group of Friends of Neutrality, created within the framework of the United Nations at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
The conference participants noted that this conference was an important step in strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union, developing inter-parliamentary relations. They also particularly emphasized that Turkmenistan’s international initiatives are aimed at strengthening peace in the region and throughout the world, ensuring sustainable development, strengthening trust between countries.
