On January 23, a ceremony and a round table discussion were held at the “Yyldyz” hotel in Ashgabat to award the winners of the “Green Energy – Bright Future” contest, organized by the “Turkmengaz” State Concern, the editorial office of the “Nebit-Gaz” newspaper, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the “Ussatnews” electronic newspaper.
Launched in May 2025 as part of the International Year of Peace and Confidence, the contest was aimed at raising public awareness of modern energy solutions and supporting Turkmenistan’s national priorities in the field of ecology, energy efficiency and climate policy. Participants submitted articles on renewable energy sources, increasing energy efficiency and implementing “green” projects in the country.
Dozens of works from different regions of Turkmenistan were submitted to the competition. The authors raised important issues such as the efficient use of resources, the introduction of modern technologies and ensuring sustainable development.
The best articles were published in the newspaper “Nebit-Gaz”, as well as on the websites oilgas.gov.tm and ussatnews.com.
The winners of the competition:
1st place: Ahmet Geldiyev (department editor of the newspaper “Watan”); Sapargylych Durdygylyjov (laboratory director of the Natural Gas Research Institute of the State Enterprise “Turkmengaz”); Mammet Mammedov (section director of the newspaper “Nebit-Gaz”).
2nd place: Nurmuhammet Allanazarov (engineer of the Scientific and Production Center “Renewable Energy Sources” of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan); Yagmyr Atayev (senior specialist of the Environmental Protection Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan); Muhammetnur Yazgeldiyev (student of the Turkmen State Institute of Culture).
3rd place: Kerimmuhammet Muhammetorazov (specialist of the Ministry of Education); Annajemal Amangylyjova (teacher of the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics); Nabat Wepayeva (specialist of the public organization “Ýaş tebigatçy”).
The first place winners were awarded certificates for participation in a study tour to European countries within the framework of a project funded by the European Union and the German Foreign Ministry. The second and third place winners were awarded commemorative gifts.
Dr. Karolina Milov, Head of the GIZ Green Central Asia Program, noted that the competition demonstrated the interest of young people and professionals in sustainable energy issues.
Taking into account the numerous requests from readers and website visitors, the organizers announced that such a competition will be announced again in the future.
