The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand wants to launch a program of free domestic flights for foreign tourists, the Bangkok Post reports. The initiative will require 700 million Thai baht from the budget to attract at least 200 thousand travelers and stimulate travel outside popular cities.
Six airlines will participate in the program: Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Thai Vietjet.
It is planned that foreign tourists who buy tickets for an international flight to Thailand will be able to get one free roundtrip flight within the country. The price will include baggage allowance of up to 20 kilograms. The program is designed for the period from September to November.
You can get a free ticket when booking an international flight directly with the airline or through online travel agencies.
The authorities expect that the program will bring 8.8 billion Thai baht to the kingdom’s economy.
The project will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of Thailand for approval next week.
