On March 4, the 33rd Turkmenistan Football Championship among the clubs of the highest league kicks off with a match in the Babarap gengeshlik of the Gokdepe etrap, featuring “Ahal” against “Nebitchi” from Balkanabat.
This national championship will see eight teams competing for medals, playing in four round-robin stages.
The teams include “Altyn Asyr,” “Ashgabat,” and “Kopetdag” from the capital; “Nebitchi” from Balkanabat; “Shagadam” from Turkmenbashi; “Ahal” from Ahal velayat; “Merw” from Mary velayat; and the reigning champion, “Arkadag,” from the city of the same name, which holds city of state significance.
The first round will continue on March 5 with two exciting matches: the capital derby between “Altyn Asyr” and “Ashgabat,” and a match featuring “Shagadam” against “Merw.”
The first two round-robin stages of the championship will take place from March 4 to June 22. Matches for the second and third round-robin stages will occur in the latter half of the season.
At the end of the championship, the top two teams from Turkmenistan will qualify to participate in Asian club tournaments.
It is worth noting that at the conclusion of last year’s championship, “Arkadag” emerged as the champion of Turkmenistan for the second consecutive time, with “Ahal” earning silver medals and “Altyn Asyr” taking home the bronze medals.
