The 63rd Bologna Children’s Book Fair will be held at the BolognaFiere exhibition center from April 13 to 16.
One of the fair’s main goals is to discover talented illustrators. This year, 4158 applications from 94 countries were submitted to the children’s literature illustration competition, according to the fair’s website. 20790 illustrations were submitted to the organizing committee, with only 317 works advancing to the finals.
This year the jury selected 75 winners from 31 countries. There were no winners from Russia this year.
The winning works will be included in the annual Children’s Book Fair catalog. “Publishers from all over the world browse the Fair’s catalog to find interesting illustrators,” say the organizers.
The Bologna Children’s Literature Fair (Fiera del libro per ragazzi di Bologna) is the largest event in the world of children’s literature. It was first held in 1967. The exhibition of children’s illustrations takes center stage. Each year, the exhibition, comprised of works by the winners of the selection competition, contributes to the evolution of children’s illustration.
