The inauguration ceremony of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung was held at the historic Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. The newly appointed president accepted the letter of appointment from the people’s representatives during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
According to the latter, about 10,000 people attended the event, including 80 people’s representatives for the nomination of the president, former President Moon Jae-in and his wife, relatives of the late President Roh Moo-hyun, members of parliament, heads of constitutional bodies, heads of the diplomatic corps, local governments, religious associations, representatives of the five leading economic organizations, trade unions, etc.
“Here and now, as the one appointed by the people, I, Lee Jae-myung, the 21st President of the Republic of Korea, as a loyal servant of my sovereign. The people will move forward relying only on the people, towards a country where the people are the masters, a Republic of Korea where everyone is happy,” the newly appointed president said during his inauguration.
The latter also promised in his speech that his government would put citizens at the center of all government decisions, develop their potential and direct national power in such a way as to ensure that every citizen lives in peace, security and prosperity.
