The U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan announces an open competition for the 2026-2027 Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program, which provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.
Participants will travel to the United States for a six-week program beginning in January or September 2027. This is a non-degree academic program that includes coursework and intensive training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, and teaching strategies, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing, and as teaching tools.
Selected teachers will participate in tailored graduate-level seminars at a U.S. host university; observe classes, co-teach, and share their expertise with U.S. colleagues in U.S. secondary schools; engage in an online professional learning community with other participants to share best practices and other elements of host and home country educational systems; and take part in other educational and cultural activities.
Candidates must submit a complete application and should be:
Current full-time secondary school teachers OR language center teachers with five or more years of classroom experience in English as a Foreign Language, foreign languages, journalism, communications, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), social studies, special education, and other institutions serving primarily a local population.
Teaching students between 12 and 18 years of age; teachers responsible for teaching additional grade levels must teach middle or high school students more than 50% of their work time.
Practicing teachers who plan to continue teaching for five years after the conclusion of the program.
Residing and working in Turkmenistan at the time of application and program participation.
Note: Educational administrators (such as representatives or officials of the Ministry of Education) and school administrators who do not teach at least 50% of their time, full-time teacher trainers, university faculty, private English Language tutors and teachers working in schools primarily serving expatriates are not eligible.
