On September 30, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a conference titled “International Cooperation: A Guarantee for Strengthening Peace and Sustainable Development.”
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan attended the conference and Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov, heads and staff of the country’s Foreign Ministry, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, faculty and students of the Institute, and representatives of the national media.
Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, delivered a welcoming speech and moderated the conference.
During the event, speeches were made by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia K. Imnadze, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan N. Saakyan, Head of the UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan D. Ratna. A well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan G. Gozalov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan N. Nogayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Turkmenistan A. Madmarov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan V. Niyatbekzoda and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan R. Alimov.
In his speech, R. Meredov noted that, in the face of modern challenges and threats, Turkmenistan is consistently promoting a foreign policy based on close cooperation with the UN and strengthening its central role in global affairs. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Future Pact, emphasizing that Turkmenistan’s priority positions, presented at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, are fully aligned with its principles and goals.
In this context, the Minister highlighted Turkmenistan’s initiatives to strengthen international law, including the proposal to declare 2028 the Year of International Law, as well as the expanded use of neutrality and preventive diplomacy to ensure global security and sustainable development.
Speakers noted that the initiatives of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, presented at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, shape the current agenda for global and regional cooperation. Their implementation is aimed at strengthening peace and stability, developing sustainable transport and energy, promoting digital integration, protecting the environment and the rational use of natural resources, and combating climate change.
It was emphasized that proposals such as the establishment of the International Forum “Central Asia – a Space of Peaceful Coexistence,” the World Summit on a Culture of Peace and Trust, the Caspian Environmental Forum, and the creation of the Regional Center to Combat Desertification open up new opportunities for deepening international dialogue and partnership.
Participants unanimously expressed support for Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, based on the principles of permanent neutrality, peace, and trust, and reaffirmed their readiness for further cooperation to achieve the shared goals of the international community.
