This was stated by Zhandos Shaimardanov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan, at a meeting of the Constitutional Reform Commission, Kazinform reports.
He noted that a number of citizens had raised the issue of the status of the state language in the Basic Law.
“However, it is important to emphasize that the draft of the new Constitution clearly and unambiguously enshrines Kazakh as the state language,” Shaimardanov said.
As a reminder, the Constitutional Reform Commission published the draft of the new Constitution of Kazakhstan on January 31. The first draft of the new Basic Law consists of a Preamble, 11 sections, and 95 articles. The amendments affect 84% of the text of the Constitution.
Key areas of the reforms include the transition to a unicameral parliament – the Kurultai, the establishment of the position of vice president, and the creation of the Khalyk Kenesi – the People’s Council. The Republic of Kazakhstan remains a unitary state, with a presidential republic as its form of government.
