The first Russian freight train arrived at the Iranian capital’s Aprin dry port, traveling via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, ISNA reports.
The train consisted of 62 forty-foot containers carrying paper, pulp, and other paper products. The goods are destined for various regions of Iran and Iraq.
The train crossed the Iranian-Turkmen border near Inche Burun and reached Tehran in 12 days.
Morteza Jafari, Deputy Director General of Iranian Railways, reported that on average, one transit container train from Russia will arrive in the country every 10 days. Efforts to increase the number of trains are ongoing.
“Coordinated efforts with neighboring countries and the CIS will help make Iran a hub for exports, imports, and transit,” he noted.
ISNA emphasizes that this marks the beginning of regular train service between Iran, Russia, and Central Asian countries.
