Kyrgyzstan’s first solar power plant has been commissioned in the Kemin district, with attendancy of the President Sadyr Japarov to the ceremony.
The plant has a capacity of 100 megawatts and covers a total area of approximately 230 hectares. The project was implemented with the participation of a Chinese investor, with an investment of 56 million dollars.
At the opening, the head of state called this a historic day for the country. He emphasized that the development of renewable energy sources is one of Kyrgyzstan’s strategic priorities.
“One of our strategic goals in the energy sector, in addition to the construction of hydroelectric power plants, is solar and wind generation. Today we are commissioning the first such facility. This is a historic day,” as sadyr Japarov said.
Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev noted that the plant could provide electricity to the city of Tokmok and the Kemin district.
