Japan’s Okada Museum will auction off the famous woodblock engraving “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”.
The print was created in the 19th century by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and is part of the “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” series. It is considered one of the most widely reproduced works of Japanese art.
The Okada Museum holds one of Hokusai’s original prints. Other versions of the print can be seen at the Tokyo National Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the British Museum in London.
The engraving will be offered at Sotheby’s Hong Kong auction on November 22, among 125 pieces of Asian art. Experts estimate the collection will fetch at least 50 million dollar.
