The Main Academic Drama Theater of Turkmenistan opened the new theater season with the play “Melodies of the Dutar”, staged based on the work of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. As reported by the turkmenistan.gov.tm.
The play tells the story of the legendary musician Shukur-bakhshi. He became famous for winning the competition with his skillful playing of the dutar, and according to the agreement, Shah freed Shukur’s brother from captivity.
People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Kakajan Ashirov staged the play in 2019. The main role is played by Serdar Artykov, who plays the guitar, dutar, keyboards and is fond of pop vocals.
– I enjoy playing the role of Shukur-bakhshi, – comments Serdar Artykov. – Sometimes it seemed to me that it was more interesting for me to live in the play than in my own life. I was lucky to play Shukur in the Uzbek comedy “Tell the Truth”, Mitya in the play “Don’t Part with Your Loved Ones”, Abel in the prehistoric tragedy “Cain and Abel” on the theater stage. The image of Shukur-bakhshi is the closest to me; I would like to be in his place – to bring joy to people.
