Kosovo’s ruling party, Self-Determination, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, won a landslide victory in the snap parliamentary elections. The Central Electoral Commission in Pristina announced on Sunday, December 28, after counting votes at nearly all polling stations, that Self-Determination had won 49.8% of the vote.
Thus, it will receive almost half of the seats in the new parliament and, together with representatives of a number of ethnic minorities, will secure a government majority, predicts the portal koha.net.
The opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo and Democratic League of Kosovo are in second and third place, with 21% and 13.6%, respectively. Former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s conservative Alliance for the Future of Kosovo is in fourth place with 7.6%.
The Serbian minority is entitled to ten seats in the 120-seat parliament, and other ethnic groups are entitled to another ten.
The current parliamentary elections in Kosovo are the second since the beginning of the year. Following the regular elections held on February 9, 50-year-old Kurti was unable to reach a coalition agreement with any of the opposition parties and failed to secure a clear majority.
