On 27th March, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission.
Kaja Kallas expressed gratitude for the opportunity to discuss priority areas of bilateral cooperation. She stressed that the European Union highly appreciates the successes achieved by Turkmenistan in all areas. The guest also noted that the colorful architectural appearance of the capital, Ashgabat, made an indelible impression on her.
Warmly welcoming Kaja Kallas, the President of Turkmenistan noted that she would take part in the next meeting of the heads of foreign affairs agencies of the Central Asian countries and the European Union, and expressed confidence that the results of this meeting would contribute to the deepening of multilateral relations with the European Union, wishing her success in the upcoming work.
It was stated that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to cooperation with the EU in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
In recent years, the interaction between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the political-diplomatic sphere has been successfully carried out both at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the partnership in the “Central Asia-European Union” format. The development of effective and mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union is of great importance for the region, due to the potential of the Central Asian states.
In this regard, it was noted that the first summit “Central Asia-European Union” will be held in the city of Samarkand of the Republic of Uzbekistan and is designed to facilitate the establishment of a multifaceted and long-term partnership on a regular basis.
During the discussion of the current state of cooperation and the possibilities for its expansion, it was emphasized that close dialogue with the European Union is carried out within the framework of the implementation of programs aimed at the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan. Thus, a number of major projects in the field of transport links in the Eurasian space are being gradually implemented.
The President of Turkmenistan noted that their state, together with the countries of the region and authoritative international organizations, is actively developing such promising transport corridors as North-South and East-West. They expressed confidence that the corridors would become a reliable bridge for expanding cooperation with the countries of the Eurasian continent in the trade and economic sphere.
The head of state, having highly assessed the level of development of the multifaceted dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union, confirmed their country’s commitment to its expansion.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, expressed confidence in the further successful development of mutually beneficial cooperation and exchanged best wishes.
