Kazakhstan has opened the renovated Temir-Baba automobile checkpoint on the border with Turkmenistan and the Kazygurt checkpoint on the border with Uzbekistan. This was announced by the press service of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The modernization is part of the state program to upgrade border infrastructure, as directed by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The work was carried out without closing traffic: a temporary system was used for freight and passenger transport, thereby eliminating queues.
At the Temir-Baba checkpoint, border-crossing time has been reduced to 30 minutes, and throughput capacity has increased to 1000 vehicles per day. An increase in traffic flow is already being recorded, stimulating trade and economic ties with Turkmenistan.
The program covers nine checkpoints on the borders of Kazakhstan with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Kaplanbek, Atameken, Kolzhat, and Alakol have previously been modernized. Renovations are planned for Tazhen, Maykapchagay, and Bakhty by the end of the year.
