The grand opening of the “Korkut Ata” Turkic World Film Festival took place in Aktau.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, it is an initiative of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), which unites the national film organizations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
Over the years, the festival has been held in Istanbul, Bursa, Shusha, and Anau, and this year, Kazakhstan takes up the baton for the first time.
The grand opening took place at the House of Friendship and began with a red carpet screening of “QAITADAN,” the debut feature by director Duman Yerkimbek.
The festival program includes creative meetings with leading figures in the film industry, a film summit, screenings of competition and non-competition films, and a cultural program with visits to natural attractions in the Mangystau region.
The closing ceremony and awards ceremony will take place on October 4.
The jury will determine the winners in the categories “Best Feature Film,” “Best Director,” “Best Screenplay,” “Best Actress,” and “Best Actor.”
A special TURKSOY award “For Contribution to Turkic Culture” will also be presented.
