As part of the official visit of the Turkmen delegation to the Georgian Parliament, a meeting of representatives of the two countries’ legislative bodies took place under the leadership of Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan D. Gulmanova and Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Sh. Papuashvili.
During the meeting, the parties noted that Turkmen-Georgian cooperation is developing on a regular and systematic basis and covers a wide range of areas of mutual interest. Within this cooperation, interparliamentary interaction is of particular importance, serving as a vital tool for strengthening mutual understanding and coordinating positions on key issues on the bilateral agenda.
Emphasizing the dynamic nature of established interparliamentary ties, the parties noted the crucial role of high-level parliamentary visits and annual meetings of interparliamentary friendship groups. These interaction formats play a key role in parliamentary diplomacy, which serves as a crucial mechanism for strengthening interstate relations and stimulates the development of bilateral and multilateral ties.
The parties discussed legislative initiatives and prospects for joint projects, focusing on improving the work of friendship groups, exchanging experiences, strengthening cooperation between relevant committees, and creating conditions for regular and constructive dialogue. Particular attention was paid to establishing contacts between the Group of Young Parliamentarians of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and young parliamentarians of the Parliament of Georgia, as well as women parliamentarians. The parties also expressed their willingness to continue mutual support for initiatives within international organizations.
The Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan also signed the Book of Distinguished Guests in the Parliament of Georgia.
At the conclusion of the talks, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Parliament of Georgia.
The two leaders expressed confidence that this document will provide a reliable foundation for the further development of interparliamentary cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
