The World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-2025) opened on Monday in the capital of Azerbaijan. This is the first time this event has been held in the South Caucasus and Central Asia region.
The conference, held at the Baku Congress Center, brought together representatives from regulatory bodies, international organizations, and the telecommunications and information technology sectors.
As Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), noted, despite the achievements made since the previous conference, the digital divide in developing countries remains significant, particularly for women and girls.
During the conference, ITU member states will develop a global digital development roadmap for 2026-2029. Furthermore, an ITU regional acceleration center will be opened in Baku, serving as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, connecting the capital of Azerbaijan to ITU’s global digital inclusion network.
More than 2,000 delegates attend the event, which runs until November 28, from 150 countries, including over 300 youth representatives.
