The world’s first six-ton tiltrotor, the Lanying R6000, developed by a Chinese company, successfully completed its maiden test flight in Sichuan Province, according to the Global Times newspaper.
The aircraft is capable of seamlessly switching between vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and high-speed horizontal flight.
Its maximum speed reaches 550 km/h (340 mph), twice that of traditional helicopters, and its range is up to 4000 km (2500 miles).
The Lanying R6000 is designed for use in mountainous and coastal areas, where it can significantly reduce travel time. It is also planned for use in search and rescue operations, firefighting, police patrols, and disaster relief.
According to forecasts from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the country’s low-altitude aviation market could exceed 499.5 billion dollars by 2035.
