Turkmenistan has been selected as the host for the 84th meeting of the CIS Railway Transport Council, scheduled for June 2026. Deputy Minister of Railway Transport Sylapberdi Nurberdiyev announced this during the SPECA Economic Forum held in Ashgabat.
According to him, the Turkmen side is ready to ensure a high level of organization for the event and looks forward to the active participation of CIS delegations. The ministry representative also invited forum participants to join the upcoming Council session.
In his speech, Nurberdiyev noted that Turkmenistan is consistently implementing its strategy to develop the region as an important international transport and logistics hub. In this context, the country is open to expanding partnerships and jointly implementing promising infrastructure projects. The Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor was highlighted, providing Central Asian states with direct access to the port infrastructure of the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
Special attention was given to the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, a key eastern route of the international North-South transport corridor. The Deputy Minister emphasized that this route is one of the most efficient routes to the ports of the Gulf of Oman and holds significant potential not only for countries in the region but also for economies such as Russia and China. This, he believes, significantly enhances the project’s investment and trade attractiveness, opening up access to new foreign markets.
