US President Donald Trump has approved a road project to the Amber-mining district in Alaska. The project will help develop large deposits of cobalt, copper and other underground minerals, the White House website says.
“President Donald Trump has approved the initiative of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Administration and has directed his administration to urgently issue the necessary permits for the Amber Road project. This project will provide road access to the Amber mining district,” the statement said.
The road is very important for mining. The White House also announced a partnership agreement with the Canadian company Trilogy Metals. The agreement provides for an investment of 35.6 million dollar to support exploration activities in the Amber region. The US government has acquired the right to purchase another 7.5% of the company’s 10% stake.
In 2024, the administration of former US President Joseph Biden postponed the construction of the road. This decision was explained by the need to protect the local environment.
