Turkmen athletes completed their performance at the third CIS Games, which took place over 11 days in seven Azerbaijani cities: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi, with two bronze medals.
Hangeldi Lukmanov, an 11th-grade student at Ashgabat secondary school № 52, earned Turkmenistan team. The 16-year-old student of Nursahet Pazzyyev achieved this feat in the super bantamweight (52 kg) boxing tournament, which featured nine athletes competing at the Yevlakh Olympic centre.
Greco-Roman wrestler Aslan Agadadayev won his second bronze in the 110 kg weight class, a competition that included five athletes. In his opening bout, he defeated Azerbaijani Rauf Mutallimov 2-0, then lost 0-3 to eventual winner Dmitriy Kochurov of Russia. In his third bout, Agadadayev confidently defeated Belarusian Daniil Maslakov 3-0, before losing 1-5 to silver medalist Sayidamir Nematov of Uzbekistan, ultimately finishing third.
Earlier this year, Aslan Agadadayev, an 11th-grade student at the Turkmen-Turkish Secondary school, won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Asian U17 Championships in Vung Tau, Vietnam. He also achieved this feat in the 110 kg weight class, where nine athletes competed for the title.
1,624 athletes attended the III CIS Games under 23 years of age from 13 countries, who competed for 246 sets of medals in 23 disciplines.
The sports delegation of Turkmenistan included 56 people, including 36 athletes who were represented in 3×3 basketball, boxing, wrestling (freestyle and Greco-Roman), karate, swimming, shooting, and taekwondo.
In the overall team standings, the Turkmenistan team took eighth place with two bronze medals, ahead of Pakistan and Türkiye, which each had one bronze medal, as well as Cuba, Kuwait and Oman, who finished without medals.
Two years ago, at the previous CIS Games in Belarus, the Turkmenistan team, represented by 79 athletes in 13 events, won 3 silver and 15 bronze medals.
