Turkmen chess players successfully performed at the West Asian Junior U20 Championship, which was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from June 4 to 12. Athletes from Turkmenistan brought home gold, silver and bronze medals.
In the rapid chess tournament, Leyla Shokhradova won the gold medal, showing the best result among 110 participants from 9 countries. Her elder sister, Lala Shokhradova, distinguished herself in the classical time control, becoming the winner of the silver medal and earning the first point towards the title of Women International Master (WIM).
Among juniors, Amanmuhammet Hommadov brought bronze to Turkmenistan in the classical tournament, which brought him the direct title of FIDE Master (FM) and the first point towards the title of International Master (IM).
These successes were made possible by the hard work and leadership of the Honored Trainer of Turkmenistan Serdar Annaberdiev.
These achievements at the championship, as well as the recent “gold” medals of the men’s and women’s teams at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, confirm the rapid development of the chess movement in Turkmenistan.
