In anticipation of the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence and the 30th anniversary of its neutrality, the country’s Embassy in Russia has developed a project to popularize Turkmen cuisine, according to the Turkmenistan International Information Center.
A culinary program dedicated to national cuisine and hospitality traditions was filmed in collaboration with Russian culinary writer and television host Stanislav Khankishiev.
The dish chosen for filming was Dograma, a unique combination of bread, meat, and onions in Turkmenistan. The chefs prepared it using a recipe from the book “Bereketli Türkmen Saçagy,” breaking the bread by hand, mixing it with meat and onions, and basting it with broth fat. The dish is served on a large wooden tray.
Turkmen cuisine, including pilaf, gutaby, manti, and pishme, is part of the country’s cultural heritage. Along with carpets, musical instruments, thoroughbred horses, and the Turkmen alabai, it reflects the traditions and way of life of the people and attracts the attention of the international community.
The embassy congratulated its compatriots and friends on the holidays, wishing them an abundance of dastarkhans, strengthened friendship between nations, and bon appétit.
