A delegation from the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan visited Ljubljana. The purpose of the visit was to study Slovenia’s experience in the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer, according to the country’s Medical Information Center.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan and the Regional Alliance to Prevent Cervical Cancer supported the visit.
The specialists focused on the national ZORA program, one of the successful models of organized screening in Europe. They studied the population-based screening system, the operation of centralized registries, and cytopathology laboratory standards. The delegation also learned about international protocols for the implementation of HPV testing.
The knowledge gained will help standardize national screening protocols and strengthen the women’s health monitoring system in Turkmenistan.
