Turkmen athletes will bring home 26 medals of various distinctions from the 10th Central Asian WKF Karate Championship, which concluded in Bishkek, as reported turkmenistan.gov.tm
The competition featured 609 athletes from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, who competed for medals in the disciplines of kata (demonstration of formal exercises) and kumite (fighting) among cadets, juniors, and adults.
After four days of the tournament, our compatriots earned 9 gold, 6 silver, and 11 bronze medals.
On the first day of the competition, the students of Turkmenistan’s national team coaches Aydyn Charyev and Bayram Yalkabov won 7 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze) in kata. On the second day, they won 5 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze) in kumite; and on the third day, another 6 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze) in fights.
On the final day of the championship, our karate athletes added 8 more medals to the team’s tally, winning 4 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze.
Those who reached the highest step of the podium include: Mukhammetoraz Gulov, a 6th-grade student at Secondary School No. 1 in Bayramaly city, Mary velayat kumite among cadets under 12 years old, up to 35 kg, coach Serdar Mukhammetnazarov. Kirill Kolodin, a 6th-grade student at Secondary School No. 2 in Ashgabat kumite among cadets under 12 years old, up to 45 kg, coach Ilmyrat Shanepesov. Kuvvat Akhallyev, a 6th-grade student at Secondary School No. 61 in Ashgabat kumite among cadets under 12 years old, over 45 kg, coach Maksat Atdaev. Akhmet Ayazov, a 7th-grade student at Secondary School No. 18 in Ashgabat kumite among cadets under 14 years old, up to 40 kg, coach Rovshan Sariyev.
The silver medal was won by Arsen Khachiyan, a 6th-grade student at Secondary School No. 14 in Turkmenbashi city, Balkan velayat kumite among cadets under 12 years old, up to 40 kg, Coach Ravil Khaseynov.
Begli Bayramov, a 5th-grade student at Secondary School No. 47 in Ashgabat coach Maksat Atdaev, won two bronze medals in kumite among cadets under 12 years old in the weight category up to 35 kg. Fyodor Kiselev, a 5th-grade student at Secondary School No. 14 in Turkmenbashi city, Balkan velayat coach Ravil Khaseynov. Another bronze in kumite among cadets under 14 years old in the weight up to 40 kg was awarded to Remezan Orazmammedov, an 8th-grade student at Secondary Specialized School No. 27 in Ak Bugday etrap, Ahal velayat coach Maksat Atdaev.
The Turkmenistan national team, with 36 athletes, took fourth place in the medal standings, despite the third-place Kyrgyzstan team being represented by 238 karate athletes.
