The Turkmenistan karate team won two bronze medals at the 23rd Asian Championship among cadets and juniors under 21, which ended in the Chinese city of Shaoguan, as reported turkmenistan.gov.tm.
The competition, organized by the Asian Karate Federation WKF in the city district of Guangdong Province, brought together 498 athletes from 30 countries. Turkmenistan was represented by eight athletes.
Gurbannazar Amandurdyev won the first bronze medal, who competed in kumite among juniors, aged 16-17 in the weight category up to 55 kg. Garamammet Garamammedov brought the second bronze medal to the team in kumite among athletes under 21 in the category up to 60 kg.
Both athletes train in the national team of Turkmenistan under the leadership of head coach Aydin Charyev, a fifth dan black belt holder. The World Karate Federation (WKF) unites 200 countries of five continental federations and is the only karate organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The federation includes more than 100 million athletes.
