More than 4.6 thousand citizens of 50 countries of the world have used the humanitarian corridor through the territory of Turkmenistan to leave Iran. Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov announced this at a government meeting on June 27.
“Currently, 4,640 people have passed through this corridor, including citizens of more than 50 countries of Asia, the near and Middle East, Europe, Africa and the American continent,” the head of the foreign policy department said.
According to him, this demonstrates Turkmenistan’s commitment to the principles of permanent neutrality and the fulfillment of international obligations in the humanitarian sphere.
To ensure transit, comprehensive work was carried out, including the round-the-clock operation of all checkpoints on the Turkmen-Iranian border and servicing of foreign aircraft at the Ashgabat International Airport.
Turkmenistan is a member of 54 international organizations and programs of humanitarian focus. Since 1994, the country, together with the UN, has implemented 333 national and regional projects in various fields.
As Meredov noted, on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan, meetings were regularly held with the heads of foreign embassies and representatives of international organizations to coordinate humanitarian activities.
