The Mejlis of Turkmenistan adopted a resolution declaring 2026 the year of “Garaşsyz baky Bitarap Türkmenistan – Bedew batly at-myradyň mekany”.
The decision was made against the backdrop of the International Year of Peace and Trust, initiated by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and in connection with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality.
In 2026, Turkmenistan will celebrate the 35th anniversary of independence. The coming year has also been declared the Year of the Horse according to the Eastern calendar. In this regard, the role of the Ahal-Teke horse as a national symbol and part of the historical heritage of the Turkmen people is emphasized. The Ahal-Teke horse is depicted on the State Emblem of Turkmenistan and is considered a symbol of an independent and neutral state.
The resolution notes that over the years of independence, the country has implemented large-scale reforms, created a modern national economic model, and ensured the progressive development of all sectors.
The decision to announce the 2026 theme was made taking into account proposals from people’s representatives, public associations, work collectives, and citizens.
