President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has identified reforming national education as a key priority. Particular attention is being paid to training qualified personnel and modernizing the education system.
Turkmenistan is updating curricula, teaching methods, and facilities. Digital and interactive technologies are being introduced, and distance learning is being developed. The country continues to instill in the younger generation a spirit of patriotism and hard work.
On October 17, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Strategy for the Development of Higher Professional Education for 2026–2052. Developed at the instruction of the President, the document aims to enhance the prestige of universities, their international competitiveness, and modernize the operations and management of educational institutions.
The strategy envisages the introduction of modern planning and management mechanisms, the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and the development of a national environment for competitive higher education. Particular attention is paid to improving the qualifications of teachers and intensifying international educational exchanges.
The document also includes the modernization of educational activities through state and international accreditation, the expansion of specialist training programs, and the collaboration of science, education, industry, and business.
An important goal is to bring Turkmen universities up to global standards. In October, 13 of the country’s universities entered the 22nd edition of the THE World University Rankings 2026 with “reporter” status. The strategy envisions the continued inclusion of universities in international rankings to enhance the authority and effectiveness of national education.
The President notes that the implementation of the strategy will contribute to the modernization of all sectors of the economy, increased labor productivity, technological development, and increased employment.
