A delegation from Turkmenistan participated in international educational events in Thailand. The delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Education, teachers, and high school students from Ashgabat and Turkmenabat, according to the country’s International Information Center.
The delegation participated in the 4th Teachers’ Conference, the 3rd Schoolchildren’s Festival, and the 2nd Climate School. The meetings brought together students from Central Asia, the CIS, and Southeast Asia.
During the visit, the students visited the EGAT Climate Change Learning Center, where they learned about renewable energy and carbon neutrality projects. The delegation also visited Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The trip was part of the interstate “Climate Box” program, which aims to integrate climate education into school education. Dzhemal Durdykova, head of the project in Turkmenistan, reported that the initiative is being implemented with the support of international partners and has been adapted to the national education systems of countries in the region since 2019. Turkmenistan has completed the preparation of educational materials in the Turkmen and Russian languages.
The program includes updating the textbooks, training teachers, and engaging schoolchildren in practical climate projects. In 2024, more than 435 teachers were trained in Central Asian countries, including 140 from Turkmenistan. The best school projects on clean energy, water resources, and sustainable development were presented at international climate forums.
