Turkmenistan participated in the opening ceremony of the third CIS Games, which took place at the central city stadium in Ganja, Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev welcomed the participants and guests. The opening ceremony organizers prepared musical and dance performances, as well as mass productions reflecting the history and culture of the host country.
Delegations from each participating country ceremoniously paraded through the stadium. Basketball player Shakir Sunnetov carried the flag of Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen delegation included 41 athletes competing in seven disciplines. Turkmen athletes will compete in 3×3 basketball, boxing, karate, clay pigeon shooting, swimming, taekwondo, and wrestling.
The third CIS Games are being held at 12 sports venues in seven cities of Azerbaijan: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi. The tournament will run until October 8.
1,624 athletes under 23 years of age from 13 countries signed up for the forum: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Cuba, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Oman.
