An intercultural dance residency for dancers and choreographers from Turkmenistan is taking place in Almaty from September 22 to October 3. Organized by Jolda Dance Theatre, the residency is part of the multi-component “Dance Turkmenistan!” project.
The goal of the residency is to create a space for the exchange of experiences, networking, and co-creation.
Over the course of two weeks, residency participants will work with a curator, attend master classes with local dance specialists, and meet with representatives of the theater and dance communities. Under the mentorship of the curator, participants will refine their own ideas and develop sketches for performances, which will be presented at the final open show on October 3.
The program includes daily workshops with the curator, workshops and master classes, independent study and rehearsals, excursions, and creative meetings.
Participants will be introduced to the activities of JOLDA DANCE THEATRE, the Samruk Contemporary Dance Theatre, TEATRO89, ALMATY CREATIVE, the TRANSFORMA cultural space, the ArtKoshe Theatre, the Almaty Museum of Arts, and the Tselinny Centre for Contemporary Culture, as well as artists from various fields, composers, and directors involved in the project.
