Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of purchasing ships in Turkmenistan for transportation across the Caspian Sea. As reported by gazeta.uz with reference to the words of the Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
The Uzbek side is already discussing the possibility of purchasing ships at a shipyard in Turkmenistan.
As Ilkhom Makhkamov stated, their own ferries will speed up the transfer of goods across the Caspian Sea and reduce traffic congestion, which reaches 30-40 days. The minister also reported on agreements with Turkmen colleagues in the field of shipbuilding: he and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Memmetkhan Chakyev signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of cooperation in the field of shipbuilding.
“We agreed that we will analyze and consider the issue of purchasing ships. It is necessary to work out all the technical issues, but the document will allow us to freely work out all these technical and economic issues,” Makhkamov said.
Let us recall that following the trilateral summit between Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, a number of documents were signed, including memorandums in the field of transport and logistics cooperation.
