The DPRK has officially opened the Wonsan-Kalma tourist zone, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The world-class resort is located on the east coast, in the city of Wonsan on the Kalma Peninsula. DPRK leader Kim Jong-un attended the opening.
In his speech, he said that in the DPRK, which has rich tourism resources, as well as guaranteed political stability and systemic strength, the tourism industry has great prospective significance. Tourism can become a powerful engine of economic development, an incentive for cultural growth and regional prosperity.
Kim Jong-un added that the completion of the Wonsan-Kalma tourist zone is a “proud first step” towards developing the country’s tourism industry.
It is known that the large-scale coastal tourist zone is located on a 4 km long stretch of beach and is capable of receiving about 20 thousand visitors at a time. The complex includes hotels, shopping and entertainment centers, beaches, sports grounds, restaurants and a water park.
The resort area will open for local tourists on July 1. There is no information yet on when foreign tourists will be able to visit it.
